Last night, my girls wanted to play in their little pool since it was rather hot out. I figured why not. So I filled up the little pool and they got out their dinosaur toys to play in the water. I decided to weed the flower beds while they were enjoying thier little pool. As most parents know it only takes a little time before the kids get bored with what they were doing and all wackeyness ensues. So they decide to play in the mud. Kids will be kids and I am all for that. I decided to get the camera out becuase I knew something good was going to happen. Here are two of them.
My oldest seeing the joy of taking photos from her parents, taking a good interest in photography also.
The wind blowing in my youngest’s hair as she runs along the sidewalk.
She didn’t like that her older sister can run faster than her.

Here are some photos that would have never happened if I had not gotten up and took a walk to see what I could see and to look for things to share with you. Some questions to ask would be, What would happen if every photographer decided to stay home and stop taking photos of the people, places and things around us on a daily basis? What if there where no places to share those photos that are taken everyday? Would we know what is really around us without these?

Photography to me is a great hobby, stress reliever, health system, travel system and a good way to tell a story. And you do not need a high tech latest and greatest camera to do these things. When I started this hobby many years ago it was mainly to take snap shots like most others of family gatherings and such. At first I just took candids of the going-ons around me at family events and friends with not real regard to anything but capturing what I thought was the moment. So most all my photos where just that, a capture of the moment. Not caring what was in focus, composition, depth of field, speed, etc. Developing the film for such pictures was kind of a waste and in turn made me slow down on taking pictures all together.

WoW,something really cool happened yesterday. One of my photos won in a contest in the Foto Competition Group on Flickr.com. I was so excited!!
For those of you that don’t know about flickr.com, it is a great place to share and view photos on the internet. If you haven’t heard about it, I would suggest checking it out. You can use it to share your photos with friends or family, or join various groups and get great feedback on your shots.
For this particular group on flickr.com, the object is to win medals. You start off entering your photo into a bronze metal competition, the winner then gets a bronze metal. Then that photo can then be entered into silver competitions. When the photo wins a silver metal it can then be entered into a pre-gold competition. The top two vote getters in two pre-gold competitions, 4 photos, will then compete in the gold metal competition.
My photo just won the gold metal competition and is on display on the groups homepage. I also got to do an interview so that the other members of the group could get to know me better. I feel quite honored to have won this competition!!
Here is the photo that won the competition. I call it “Drop of Color”. I am sort of fascinated with water drops of all kinds right now. I think I will add a “how to” get water drop shot post here on the blog soon, so come on back and check it out.
